GUIDE DOGS OF THE DESERT INTERNATIONAL, INC (GDDI)
"Changing Lives, One Dog at a Time"

Guide Dogs of the Desert International, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation that was founded in 1972. We are one of only 10 recognized guide dog schools in the country. We breed, raise and train guide dogs for the blind. We then train our blind clients to work with the dogs - at no cost to our client.

Everything we achieve is made possible through private funding. The cost per team (client/dog) includes whelping, training, veterinary care, lodging for the blind and lifetime post graduate care. Since 1972, Guide Dogs of the Desert has graduated over 1,000 teams.

More Americans than ever before are facing the threat of blindness from age-related eye diseases. More than one million people in the US over the age of 40 are now blind and an additional 2.4 million are visually impaired. These numbers are expected to double over the next 30 years according to the National Eye Institute.

Our Mission: To provide high quality guide dogs and individual instruction to the blind, elderly blind and the blind with special needs.
