On Saturday, July 27, California Lions Friends in Sight (CLFIS) volunteers from throughout the District, together with the Huntington Beach Host Lions Club, performed a free doctor-led vision screening at St. Wilford of York Episcopal Church in Huntington Beach.
Every patient needing eyeglasses received a recycled pair closely matching their automated testing results. Those diagnosed with vision threatening impairment were advised and counseled. The new team of 4L4 volunteers is represented by Lions from Cucamonga District Host, Harbor Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Nigel, Mission Viejo, OC Central, Ontario Host, Ontario-Upland, and Seal Beach. They work at patient registration, volunteer sign-in, operate automated testing instruments, interpret results, measure patients’ eyeglasses, data base computer search for the best match from an 18,000 pair onsite inventory, pull eyeglasses, assist/teach patients how to select and use the best match, and finally fit and adjust the patient’s “new” eyeglasses.
The most satisfying piece is the “thank you” delivered by grateful patients and their families.
This CLFIS District 4L4 project is the embodiment of the LCI motto “We Serve”!
